Live Captioner – Mother Goose
LIVE CAPTIONER required for:
‘Mother Goose’ pantomime production at The Gaiety Theatre, Ayr, South Ayrshire, KA7 1NU for the following performance dates:
Sat 14th December 2024 for 2 x performances (1.30pm & 6.30pm)
Friday 3rd January 2025 for 2 x performances (1.30pm & 6.30pm)
Plus preparation time including watching pre-filmed show and live performance(s)
Each performance duration is approx 2 hours 15mins, plus interval.
The Gaiety seeks an experienced live-captioner to provide an in-person live captioning service for our stage musical pantomime production (the show is scripted but includes additions and adlibs throughout).
The theatre will be providing:
Caption display screens in PORTRAIT mode
Sightlines to the stage
Table, chair, power supply, and also sound source for headphones
Video recording of the show preview performance, well in advance of the captioned performances
Script, well in advance of the captioned performance (although please note there will be live additions and ad-libs to caption as the performance progresses)
Access to preview the live show for final script checks
2024 marks The Ayr Gaiety’s first in-house production to feature actors delivering performances in both BSL and spoken English throughout, using a combination of BSL, Sign Supported English, and Visual Vernacular, while other cast members perform in spoken English. Furthermore, 4 performances will be live captioned. The production is supported by Solar Bear who work collaboratively with deaf and hearing actors, theatre makers, artists and young people, promoting inclusion, and reaching out to those often excluded from the arts.
Day rate of £400 per day applies (negotiable), plus travel and accommodation allowance as necessary.
