Others
by Sarah Chew and Colum Findlay
Your chance to see the WIP (Work In Progress) sharing of a brand-new fantasy musical before anyone else.
16 year old Jamie and their friends have a problem. Politicians in the small town of Fairplay have blamed people who are a bit different for everything that’s wrong for as long as anyone can remember – and Jamie and the other kids hidden at the launderette aren’t like everyone else.
Others is a joyful, angry act of defiance against those who try to demonise minorities for personal or political gain. It’s a funny, camp, gripping musical, in the style of commercial pop to Andrews Sisters, acappella to folk.
How can you respond when you or a loved one is deemed too different to be allowed a place in society? Activism? Separatism? Terrorism? Compliance? How do we resist the forces that want to erase us, while keeping our integrity, our humanity, and our capacity for joy?
Others will be presented as a semi-staged concert: the show is at the very start of its journey, still being created, and this will be the first time it has been seen in its birthplace, Scotland
