Rural Touring Network
The Gaiety is pleased to announce its newest project, The Rural Touring Network funded by The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development.
By connecting with communities across rural Ayrshire we will programme 100 shows over the next two years. This is an exciting and ambitious project that aims to send an eclectic mix of theatre, dance, live music and comedy to the most remote areas of Ayrshire. Local communities will be at the heart of the development as we gather information on what people want to see more of, as well as challenging the perceptions of audiences with cutting edge new work.
The Network launched in September 2017 and has already hosted 13 events in Barr, Ballantrae, Colmonell, Dunure, Fairlie, Kirkmichael, Lendalfoot, Girvan including an evening of Scottish folk music for St Andrew’s Day and two theatre tours from Northumberland Theatre Company. With the help of more than 30 dedicated rural volunteers, The Rural Touring Network is off to a flying start with several sell-out performances, indicating that there is high demand for live entertainment in the smallest of places.
Our Spring line-up of events will celebrate Scotland’s Year of Young People with Harry Potter themed murder mysteries and our participation in the annual Puppet Animation Festival. In addition local playwright Catherine Czerkawska’s play The Price of a Fish Supper will be dropping anchor in various Ayrshire fishing villages.
If you have any questions about the project or about how you and your community can get involved, please contact Susan Robertson on firstname.lastname@example.org we would be pleased to hear from you.
