Following the success of Shrek the Musical and a year where it was impossible to stage a production, Ayr Amateur Opera Company are delighted to finally return to the Gaiety stage with their latest stage musical production, Sunshine on Leith by Stephen Greenhorn, featuring the songs of The Proclaimers.
Sunshine on Leith follows the story of best friends Davy and Ally as they return to civilian life in Leith after a tour in Afghanistan. They are welcomed home by Davy’s parents, Rab and Jean, and his sister Liz, who is also Ally’s childhood sweetheart. Liz and her colleague Yvonne lament the trials of working for an overstretched NHS. Deciding they are all in need of a night out, Liz takes Yvonne on a double date with her and Ally… and her brother Davy! Meanwhile, in the lead up to Rab and Jean’s 30th Wedding Anniversary, a secret from Rab’s past threatens to destroy the life he has built with his family. This story of love, family and friendship is told through the vibrant and energetic music of The Proclaimers – Leith boys themselves, and one of Scotland’s best-loved bands. This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe).
